Cultural Journal Report Honduras: "Cultural Life"
By: J. Roberto Moncada & Ralph Lee Woodward, Jr.
Summary:
Honduras' art and architecture is strongly influenced by the pre-Colombian and Spanish colonial periods. Spanish architecture represent many different and varying styles. However, in modern Honduran culture, there are not many strong representatives of art, because most artists at this time reflect their heritage. Hondurans are family-oriented because family ties are important to social identity and because they help with business. Godparents are common and are conferred at marriages and baptisms. Typical foods are tamales and yuca con chicharrón (fried cassava and pork) Food varies in regions and a person's financial state. Beans, cassava, plantains, and rice are very common among this country. Honduras allows freedom of press and improved technology helps communicate around the country more efficiently. Many Hollywood movies and TV shows are given Spanish subtitles. There are many religious festivals honoring local saints throughout the year. Soccer is a very popular sport that many Hondurans are passionate about. Most villages sponsor a soccer team or club and international matches are extremely exciting and unifying for the country. Many of the better sports and recreational facilities are in the resort region and cater to tourists.

Thoughts:
Honduras is a country that has a very diverse culture from its heritage. I think that family and soccer are very important to an average Honduran. I would like to learn more on what the article meant on "strong representatives of art" and see some art made by Honduran people. The article also didn't talk about what kind of music is common in Honduras, which I would be very curious to learn about. The article also left out alot about religion. I think that since having godparents is important to many Hondurans, that religion is a very vital part of culture that unites the country.

How Article Ties in With Culture:
This article ties in with Honduras' culture because it shows Honduras' culture. It is important to the culture in this country because the culture makes the country that it is. Also, things like religion, soccer, and family loyalty are all centripetal factors in this country.
